Dear all,
I'm hoping you can answer a question I have. How do you get Mantid installed/upgraded
in the instrument cabins? I get the impression this is not simple or straight forward.
I'm aware sometimes we get error reports for older versions of Mantid and when we try
and encourage using newer versions it's not possible because it can't be updated.
Sadly this means any fixes we've done can't be accessed because they will be in a
later version. I'm trying to think about how this can be sorted more easily. It's
in nobody's interest doing fixes that are not being used.
Thanks
Sarah

Speaking for SANS, we install new versions ourselves. So it does depend how diligent we
are... But it's not hard. No different to an office computer or home computer.
I guess we do have to be careful with our terminology here though. The average instrument
cabin may have 4 different types of computer:
- The NDX/NDH - the actual 'instrument control computer'; this is Chris
M-S's domain. But you would not run Mantid on these.
- The NDC 'viewing computer' which does little more than letting you VNC
to the NDX; again you would not run Mantid on this.
- The NDL 'analysis' computer(s); these are where Mantid would be run, or
what would be used to use IDAaaS.

We have two standalone linux computers with 128Gb of RAM.
They are managed by computing support and we cannot install versions ourselves.
We tend to have a few versions running on those as sometimes, the new versions have new
features but are not so stable.
